Paper App and the Wacom Bamboo

A few weeks ago I got an iPad and I am having so much fun with it but not so much as yesterday!  I finally got my Wacom Bamboo Stylus and I tried it out on the Paper App by Fifty Three and it was fantastic.

First of all Wacom did a splendid job with the design of the stylus.  It feels real, like a real pen and its really easy to draw with the small tip.

Secondly, the Paper App is really wicked!  If you love going out sketching, this is the app for you.  You can add as many sketchbooks as you like and you can even customize it.  Its got a pen, pencil, brush and other goodies so its really great to sketch.

This is my latest one and theres more to come!

SCBWI’s Publishers day is a success!

Yesterday it was the Publishers Day held by our SCBWI chapter and it was the first time this was done.  All the publishers pitched up and it was absolutely fantastic to talk to them face to face.

I was very nervous cause I didnt know what to expect but I guess all of us felt like that even the publishers.  They were very friendly and gave me some really good feedback on my work, especially PanMacmillan who went crazy about my work.

I have made some new friends and I also got very inspired by the other illustrators portfolio.  Here is Matina and Noreen having a cup of coffee, both are writers and the adorable Heidel who is such a talented illustrator.  I kept drooling over her work

SCBWI SA’S PUBLISHERS DAY

I am so excited!  Its the first time that SCBWI Gauteng will hold a Publishers Day this year.  All the local Publishers will be there and you can have interviews with them and show of your portfolio!

The publishers day will be on the 8th of May and I will be seeing Fantasi, Lapa, Jacana and PanMacmillan.  Im very nervous as this will be my first time doing something like this but I am also very excited!  Just think of all the possibilities and I can also meet other illustrators and writers.

Also my dummy book is coming along nicely and so far I really like it.  The picture below is one of the spreads Im busy with.

My first dummy book

I haven’t told anyone that I am working on my first book.  I don’t know if it will get published or not, for me its a huge step and I’m very proud of it.

I have been planning and drawing the illustrations and I’m finally done the last pencil spread.  Now I have to ink and colour it and I cant wait!

Here’s a picture of my dummy book laid out on the living room floor.

New bookmarks and notebooks

Its been a while, I do apologize but I am so busy with new things that I will tell you about in a couple of days, I promise! First I got new things up in my Etsy Store.

This lovely notebook looks really old with the coffee stained cover. My wonderful fairy made her way onto the cover. stained cover. My wonderful fairy made her way onto the cover.

I also have some spooky bookmarks up for sale.  I love purple and I love ghost stories and this is ideally to give to a person that also likes those things.

Free for a while, lets fly!

I’m done with work for Cambridge and Oxford University so now I got a bit of spare time to work on my own work.

Its been a while now that I really want to do something fantasy and yesterday I started with a little fairy, a bit patched up but she got the most wonderful personality and she is very adventurous.

Here is the draft I’m finished with, shall start today with the inking.

Three Blind Mice

On Friday afternoon I got the Derwent Studio set and I couldn’t wait to try them out.  I was busy in my free time to do an illustration of the three blind mice.  I did scan it to be used as a digital piece but when I got the pencils I thought why not!

It came out really beautiful, better than the scan shows.  The original will be available in my store for only £20
